COVER REVEAL: The Midnight Star by Marie Lu

We all remember Marie Lu's extremely dark and twisted The Young Elites series, don't we? The story of Adelina, and how she slowly descends into darkness, embracing pain and fear as her strengths? Well, the cover to the final instalment is officially out!

Whoa. I actually had no idea what to expect, I'll be honest. The title alone had me scratching my head a bit, since it was a jump from the previous titles, all which dealt with a group of people rather than one mere individual. But hey, it just hints that there's going to be something seriously world-changing going down in this book, right?

The cover itself, as gorgeous as it is, reminds me a little of Star Wars, and I'm not sure about it. Don't get me wrong, I really do like the cover. I have a thing for stars (cough, blog title) and this is a beautiful image of the night sky, offset by snowy mountains. But I don't think it quite fits with the rest of the series. The atmosphere is a bit off, and lacks the menace I thought it would have. Of course, this could all be hinting at how Adelina will be making some huge, beyond-this-world changes, and the somber mood of the cover may be hinting at her potential...sacrifice. Which is code for demise. Kind of the "she lives among the stars" thing, maybe?

Here's a look of what the covers look like together:

I'm not the only one who sees that they don't quite match, am I? I mean individually, it's fine, but as part of the series, not so much. What do you guys think of the cover? Love it, hate it, neutral?

This book comes out October 11th, 2016. Get ready to read the conclusion of Adelina's story, and to dive a little deeper into what it means to be a hero of your story, even if you've become a villain...

The thrilling finale to the New York Times bestselling Young Elites series from “hit factory” Marie Lu.

There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.

Adelina Amouteru is done suffering. She’s turned her back on those who have betrayed her and achieved the ultimate revenge: victory. Her reign as the White Wolf has been a triumphant one, but with each conquest her cruelty only grows. The darkness within her has begun to spiral out of control, threatening to destroy all that she’s achieved.

Adelina’s forced to revisit old wounds when a new danger appears, putting not only Adelina at risk, but every Elite and the very world they live in. In order to save herself and preserve her empire, Adelina and her Roses must join the Daggers on a perilous quest—though this uneasy alliance may prove to be the real danger.

Bestselling author Marie Lu concludes Adelina's story with this haunting and hypnotizing final installment to the Young Elites series.

  1. When I first saw the cover, I absolutely loved it. But you're right; it doesn't fit with the rest of the series. I think Midnight Star and Young Elites look really good together, but the second book kind of throws of the scheme. The second cover isn't as simple as the other ones. This makes me so excited for the series. I just really need to read the second one!

    1. I couldn't agree more! The third one is really pretty, but put together with the rest of the books, it doesn't quite fit. But I'm sure it won't take away from the story, though!

  2. When I saw the cover, I liked it, but after closer look the background doesn't really fit with the font, and the whole cover doesn't match with the other two books! It doesn't have the gloomy gray mood that the other 2 have. Its... too sparkly for a series that supposed to be dark (but hey there's a falling star on the cover so we'll see maybe that's a symbol or something!).

    1. That's what I'm banking on too! My guess is that the entire cover is symbolic, and represents either Adelina "living among the stars" and the whole somber atmosphere and whatnot!

  3. That cover is so beautiful!! I really love that dark blue color. You're right though, the whole series as a whole looks a bit weird, I think it's mostly because of the second book? I haven't read this series yet, maybe I should give it a try :)

  4. The font is the same, but it feels separate to the theme. The cover gives too much hope and light to the book, which is completely opposite to what's happening to Adelina. Like you said, maybe she'll sacrifice herself to make things right, even though it doesn't seem as if she'll do that with the current state she's in. I can't wait to see what it really means!

    1. Agreed! The cover seems a bit off in terms of theme from the other books, and from the mindset Adelina lives in. But who knows what she'll end up doing? The cover could end up being a very good reflection of her future actions...

  5. Wow it's obviously a gorgeous cover but The title and Cove both don't really go with the series... I mean if this was a standalone or a new book series by Lu I would be going crazy because it's amazing but *sigh*. So many covers are night/star themed, it's great!!! <3

    1. True, true, and true! If this was a standalone, I would be going crazy over it. But because it's part of a series, and it doesn't match the other books, I'm left a little confused. But it's still such a gorgeous cover!
