Book Feature: Kings & Criminals by Mungo Magennis

Hi everyone! I'm doing a book feature today, for Kings & Criminals by Mungo Maginnis! It sounds pretty awesome, so do check it out!

The first book in the exciting new series takes you into the inner workings of Max’s mind as he sets out to learn what power and influence really mean.

Max is a bright, young man looking for a way to change a broken world that he sees around him. One day he finds it. An idea takes hold and doesn’t let go. He’s driven to create a secret group with the aim of putting each of the members into the most powerful and influential positions in the country. After recruiting them one by one for their varying interests and skills, he brings them together to ask that they dedicate their lives to the pursuit of something bigger.

Their motivations are altruistic… long-term. However, as the group members plan their futures, events that could jeopardise everything force them to make tough decisions now. They quickly have to learn the difference between ‘the battle’ and ‘the war’, and decide what is justifiable now to ensure they all make it to act II.

Does a sixteen-year-old boy have what it takes to build such a group? How far will each go to protect the rest?

Mungo Magennis is the author of the new Kings and Criminals series. He arrives fresh to the world of literature from magical world of tech where he’s worked with some of the world’s most powerful and influential companies. His debut novel, Kings and Criminals, explores what people are really capable of when there is a clear goal in mind. The idea for K&C has been burning at the back of his mind for the past 15 years. However, the motivation for the book came just four years ago during a late night discussion with an old school friend who was working in children’s TV. His friend’s enthusiasm for the story inspired Mungo to start writing Kings and Criminals the next day.

Four years have passed, including long writing nights after long working days, and the 33-year old is now ready to publish the first in what what promises to be an exciting new series. The story begins in the author’s hometown, bringing to life this semi-autobiographical account of youth and ambition.

Mungo’s writing influences include Stephen Fry, Alexandre Dumas, Robert Harris, Alexander McCall Smith, Dan Brown.

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my blog spot for Children of the Bloodlands by S.M. Beiko! I'm so thrilled to be hosting this. I have an excerpt that you definitely don't want to miss!

The dazzling second book in S.M. Beiko’s Realms of Ancient series

Three months after the battle of Zabor, the five friends that came together to defeat her have been separated. Burdened with the Calamity Stone she acquired in Scion of the Fox, Roan has gone to Scotland to retrace her grandmother’s steps in an attempt to stop further evil from entering the world.

Meanwhile, a wicked monster called Seela has risen from the ashy Bloodlands and is wreaking havoc on the world while children in Edinburgh are afflicted by a strange plague; Eli travels to Seoul to face judgment and is nearly murdered; Natti endures a taxing journey with two polar bears; Phae tries desperately to obtain the key to the Underworld; and Barton joins a Family-wide coalition as the last defense against an enemy that will stop at nothing to undo Ancient’s influence on Earth — before there is no longer an Earth to fight for.

Darkness, death, and the ancient powers that shape the world will collide as our heroes discover that some children collapse under their dark inheritance, and those who don’t are haunted by blood.

Blog Tour: The Call of the Rift: Flight by Jae Waller

Hi everyone! I'm super excited to be kicking this month off with a blog tour stop! I'll be doing a cover art discussion of this beauty :)

Book: Flight
Author: Jae Waller
Series: The Call of the Rift #1
Publisher: ECW Press
Pages: 440
Release: April 3rd, 2018

A rebellious heroine faces a colonial world coming unstitched in Jae Waller's stunning debut fantasy

Seventeen-year-old Kateiko doesn’t want to be Rin anymore — not if it means sacrificing lives to protect the dead. Her only way out is to join another tribe, a one-way trek through the coastal rainforest. Killing a colonial soldier in the woods isn’t part of the plan. Neither is spending the winter with Tiernan, an immigrant who keeps a sword with his carpentry tools. His log cabin leaks and his stories about other worlds raise more questions than they answer.

Then the air spirit Suriel, long thought dormant, resurrects a war. For Kateiko, protecting other tribes in her confederacy is atonement. For Tiernan, war is a return to the military life he’s desperate to forget.

Leaving Tiernan means losing the one man Kateiko trusts. Staying with him means abandoning colonists to a death sentence. In a region tainted by prejudice and on the brink of civil war, she has to decide what’s worth dying — or killing — for.

RECREATED Blog Tour: Colleen Houck's Never Have I Ever + Giveaway!

Hi guys! I am beyond thrilled to welcome you my stop of Colleen Houck's blog tour for Recreated!

From Colleen Houck, New York Times bestselling author of The Tiger’s Curse, comes Recreated, the second book in the epic Egyptian-inspired Reawakened series, in which a seventeen-year-old must literally go to hell to save the love of her life.

Lily Young thought traveling across the globe with a reawakened sun prince was a grand adventure. Now she’s about to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

When Amon and Lily part tragically, he transports himself to the Netherworld—what mortals call hell. Tormented by the loss of his one true love, he’d rather suffer in agony during Lily’s mortal years than fulfill his duty to protect humanity.

Heartbroken, Lily seeks refuge on her grandmother’s farm. Yet she can feel Amon’s pain, and she has been having dreams—dreams of Amon continually suffering.

For before he departed, Amon gave Lily something very special, an item that connects them even though they are worlds apart. Now Lily must use this object to free him, and to free their realms from darkness and utter chaos. She will do whatever it takes.

If you haven't checked this series out yet, you definitely should. It's modern Egyptian mythology, complete with romance, action, and adventure! It is definitely worth a read if you're looking for something both fresh and traditional. Plus we get not one, not two, but three rather attractive princes (but don't worry--it's not a love triangle) to swoon over!

Now on to the tour! I have the pleasure of sharing with you Colleen Houck's answers to the popular question game Never Have I Ever. Enjoy!

Author Interview and Excerpt: SPANISH LESSONS with Jessica Peterson

I have the absolute pleasure of interviewing the one and only Jessica Peterson on my blog today, the author of the Study Abroad series! The first book, Spanish Lessons, is absolutely phenomenal (read my review here). I'm currently reading the second novel, Lessons in Gravity, and it is equally as amazing! This post has two parts: an interview and an excerpt, and you don't want to miss any part of this! You guys ready? Because I'm beyond excited! Let's get started!

Vivian Bingley has big plans for her semester abroad in Spain

Along with her BFF, Maddie, Vivian hopes to indulge her inner Art History nerd by visiting the best museums in the world. She also wants to tackle more practical concerns—like a less than stellar GPA in her major, Economics—with the help of a Spanish tutor.

But falling for her studly Spanish tutor definitely isn't one of them.

Madrileño Rafa Montoya is the stuff study abroad dreams are made of: super studly and super smart. He also happens to be super into Vivian. With his wicked dancing skills and his passion for the arts, he tempts her to throw caution to the wind and live out her wildest dreams.

Only problem? Maddie wants Rafa, too, and Vivian promised herself she’d never settle for second best again…not after a hookup-gone-awry last semester left her heartbroken. Is it best for Vivian to protect her heart at all costs? Or is letting Rafa in worth the risk?

This book is a New Adult contemporary romance, suitable for mature audiences.

BLOG TOUR: The Last of the Firedrakes Interview and Giveaway!

Welcome, guys!
Today I have the absolute pleasure of having Farah Oomerbhoy, author of The Last of the Firedrakes, on my blog! I'm so excited! She's here to answer a few questions for us :) Don't forget to check out the awesome giveaway at the bottom, too! and if you haven't read her book yet, do it! (You can check out my review of her book here.)
Alright, let's get started! Welcome, Farah Oomerbhoy!

1. To get the ball rolling, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a happily married mother of three wonderful kids and live in Mumbai in India. But I think I would rather live in Narnia. :)

2. When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

I think that started a very long time ago when I started writing four line poems and sticking them all over my mother’s walls. I think I was seven. Since then I would write a few pages of different stories and then start a new one. When I became a teenager I continued writing my poems. I think my grandmother had a box somewhere where she would store them, since she was the only one who was interested in reading them. After that I went on to study English literature in university. After that there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be an author, I wanted to write stories and share them with the world.

3. What first attracted you to write in the fantasy genre?
Every reader at some point in their lives comes across a book that inspires them to think beyond the boundaries. For me that story was Harry Potter. The wonderful world of Hogwarts and the magical beings that lived within it made me look at the world of magic in a completely different way. I had always loved reading fantasy stories, and Tolkien’s Lord of The Rings, along with C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, and Enid Blyton’s Magic Faraway Tree series were already my favorites. But somehow reading Harry Potter was like a switch that suddenly turned on and fired my imagination. I wanted to write about magical worlds with wondrous creatures and life threatening quests. And so The Last of the Firedrakes started to take shape.

4. What was the most challenging thing you had to face when publishing your book?

I would have to say the most challenging thing was finding the right people to work with to get the book ready and into the market. I had an agent at first and sent my manuscript out on submission but the book was not ready and was still unedited. So after being rejected by a few publishers, I decided that I needed an editor and that I would go ahead and self publish my first book.

At that time I was completely new to publishing and I had no idea how to go forward. I realized that I needed help and I started looking for someone to assist me. That was when I found my wonderful virtual assistant Kate Tilton who was like a fairy godmother when it came to getting things done. Somehow she always manages to have an answer to everything. She put me in touch with Laura Zats and the amazing women at Wise Ink Creative Publishing, and everything fell into place. They set me to work with the best editors, a great cover designer and interior designer, and have done such a wonderful job in taking my very rough manuscript under their wing and transforming it into a lovely book that I can be proud of.

5. Can you tell us what your novel is about and where the idea comes from?

I started thinking about this book nearly ten years ago. Building the world of Avalonia whenever I got time. The actual world creation started with a tapestry in my grandmother’s house.

One day I stood before it and wondered, what if I could step into the tapestry, where would I end up? From then on, the person who stepped into the tapestry was a young sixteen-year-old girl who didn’t know who she really was, her name is Aurora, and this is her story.

6. If you could be any supernatural creature what would it be and why?

I think I would like to be Fae. Faeries and the magic they posses have always fascinated me.

7. If you can write any book outside your genre, what would it be and why?

I think I would love to try and write historical romance. It has always been a favorite genre of mine to read, and I love history, so exploring different historical settings and periods would be quite interesting.

8.  What is one of your favorite hobbies?

Reading is pretty much my only hobby!

9. Last but not least, are there any other projects you are working on? Any sequels or new novels to be looking forward to?

Yes! I am working on books two and three of the Avalonia Chronicles at present. Hopefully book two should be ready by the end of next year.
Thank you so much for answering these questions, Farah! Best of luck for your next books! And if you guys haven't read her book yet, do it! (You can check out my review of her book here.)
