Bookish Musings and Ponderings: To Be Fictional or Not to Be Fictional?

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another instalment of my Bookish Musings and Ponderings, where I discuss random book-related topics for my (and hopefully your) entertainment :)

Today's topic...to be fictional or not to be fictional?

So, I'm pretty sure you've all seen this image:

I want to take a look at this, and the truths behind it. Because for me, it's no secret that I would much rather be a fictional character. Why, you ask? What would be so good about being fictional and living in a fictional world? Allow me to explain:

1. Everyone gets a (sort of) happy ending.
Okay, that's technically not true. But generally, the good guys get a happy ending, and though the bad guys don't, they definitely end up getting what they deserved! Besides, no one dies in vain. Well, at least not often!

2. Romance.
Fine, so I'm a hopeless romantic and desperately want a dark knight or fae or prince or high lord to fall in love with me. Sue me.

3. Perfect diction and dialogue.
Do any of you have this issue where when someone is telling you something important, you have no idea what to say? And what ends up coming out is probably not what you should have said? Or you say something, only to kick yourself half an hour later for having not said something else? Fret not, for fictional characters always say the right things at the right times, and always know what to do. Even if they don't, 90% of the time it's the right thing to do/say.

4. People who don't learn, burn.
There are jerks in the world. Rude, egotists, selfish, bossy, or any combination. Some do it knowingly, others unknowingly. And there's the whole saying that if they don't learn soon, they'll get what's coming for them. But the reality is that there are some people who never learn, just because their circumstances don't require them to learn certain things to be successful. They're privileged, and get away with things without so much a mark on their consciousness. Now, in books, the snobby characters always end up in a less-than-desirable situation, or end up unhappy in the long run. In reality? Not so much. The world is so much fairer when you live in a fictional world. Justice is properly served!

These are just a few pros I can think of as to why I'd rather be a fictional character. However, the obvious downside...if I were a fictional character, that would mean I'd be the product of someone's masterpiece. Hmmm.

Don't get me wrong, I am perfectly content with the life I have right now. It's just...all the people I idolize are fictional characters, so it's kind of hard to not want to see myself fictional, just like them. Then again, I often have my head stuck in a cloud for the majority of the time, and no one said I was logical haha.

What do you guys think? Do you sometimes wish you were a fictional character? Would life be easier or harder? Let me know!

Happy reading! :)

  1. OH my word this post!! So relatable!! When I was much younger, I was a total romantic and would literally want to cry because I wanted to fall in love with a fairytale Prince and have that life so desperately. So embarrassing ;) Even now, I wish I wish I could be one of the fictional characters I love to read about. Their lives all seem so exciting.

    1. I know! I mean, everything about their lives seems much more exciting and amazing, especially compared to our mundane lives. Sigh. I know a lot of people tell me to act my age, but the truth is, I don't want to when in books people my age are off doing amazing things until they die!

  2. I am basically living number 2 right now and always will be.
    WHERE IS MY FAE PRINCE?
    OR DRACONIAN WARRIOR?
I mean, I'm not asking for a lot am I? hahaha.
    Always fictional!
