Blog Changes and Updates

Hi guys!

So, as a few of you might have already noticed, my blog has gone through some big changes. The general format of my blog has been the same ever since I started it, and I felt like it was time to move on, to graduate from my amateur blog style to something more sophisticated and clean. Here's a quick rundown of the changes I've made:

TitleYes, this is the second time I've changed my blog title (first was Books, Stars, Writing. And the Pages in Between, then to Book, Stars, and the Pages in Between, and now just to Books and Stars, with the Pages in Between part now the sub-title). I apologize for all this hassle and confusion, but this will be the final time I change it. Why? Because this one finally matches my URL!

Heading/cover: I mean, who doesn't have a nifty blogging cover photo? It was time I had one too. As recommended a while ago by Cloe from Morning and Epilogues, I used Pixlr.com to design my cover. Given that I am by no means a photo designing expert, I think my attempt turned out okay.

Format: One interesting thing about my old blog style was the fact I had two side bars. But after spending a lot of time on other people's blogs, I noticed everyone had only one. I felt like having two didn't really make mine unique, just weird. So I took it out, and changed it to the traditional format of normal blogs.

So, in conclusion: what do you guys think? Do you guys like the changes? Is there anything you don't like, or think I should revert back to the original one? Is there anything I didn't change (format of my posts, font, tabs, etc) that you think I should change? Is there any
thing I should add (like a signature, more widgets, new tabs, etc.) into my blog? Is my blog too simple, or too clean? Let me know in the comments!

    1. Thank you so much! I was afraid the header would look strange, so it's a huge relief to hear that it's alright! :)

  2. The redesign looks fantastic, Erika! I think you nailed it. It's a perfect mix of new and familiar styling. There's always room for improvement, no matter how amazing your design comes out, but there's nothing that stands out to me personally as needing some tweaks. I think most bloggers avoid the 3-column layout because it's very, very easy for it to become way too busy. Two columns gives your blog some extra, clean space.

And yes, I think you did a great job on the header as well! :D When you're not an artist, header design can be such a pain.. and copyright on images makes it 1000x worse. :p

    1. Thank you so much, Eve! The 3 column just didn't work for me, since my blog wasn't exactly busy enough to have so many things going on. I felt a bit like I was a fraud in that sense, pretending there was a lot of activity when there wasn't! This one is definitely much easier to manage now :)

  3. It's interesting how blogs change! I love your look by the way - and I honestly felt the same about the two sidebars! I used to have two as well, and I totally thought the same thing and changed it for the same reason as well! -hi fives-

    1. *high fives you back* Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who made that rookie mistake! I'm just ashamed it took me so long to finally take the extra sidebar out--my blog could have looked a lot nicer if I had actually done it instead of waiting!

  4. I really like the new design! It's really neat and easily navigable. I think the header looks really good! For me, Pixlr.com is the easiest to use, especially compared to Photoshop. They have similar functions, so it works for me! All in all, your blog looks great! :)

    1. Thanks, Cloe! I owe the header all to you, since I have little to no skills with photo editing. I learned the very basics of Photoshop a few years ago, but I never really understood it, since there were way too many things for me to understand in the two weeks I was learning it. But Pixlr was definitely so much easier to manage, so thank you so much! :D

    1. Thank you! I'm glad people like it. I was afraid the changes would be too dramatic!

  6. I love this new design! Sometimes I feel weird because I change my blog design ALL THE TIME. I'm afraid I'm confusing people, since most bloggers rarely ever change theirs, and I've changed mine 4 or 5 times since I started (and that's just the completely resigning!). Anyway, the one-sidebar decision was definitely a good one! It looks really clean now. And good job on the header! :)

    1. Thank you so much, Alex! Haha, there's always that fear whenever blog designs change. But I think changing our blog means that we're doing good, that we've realized there's something worth changing, worth making better. So in a way, it makes us the smartest of all! ;)

  7. I really like this new design! For someone who isn't a photo designing expert, your logo and everything else turned out great :D

    1. Aw, thank you so much <3 I realized it was time I changed it, just to clean it up. My background especially had to go! After seeing other blogs like yours with such pretty backgrounds, I needed something different. Who knows, maybe I'll change it again in another week, haha ^.^
