Percy Jackson Series Reread Begins!

It's starting!!! Caroline from Just Another Bookish Blog and I are beyond excited to begin our Percy Jackson re-read!

We're starting The Lightning Thief this week!

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy's mom finds out, she knows it's time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he'll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

We'll be doing a bunch of fun posts each week, with Myth Wednesdays, Review Fridays, and Discussion Sundays, so don't forget to check back both our blogs! No worries if you're already read them or joining in late :)

To start the re-read off, we're doing mini profiles of our half-blood selves! Feel free to leave you own in the comments, we'd love to see them!

Half-blood Profile
Name: Erika Gold

Age: 19

Godly Parent: Poseidon

Cabin: 3

Weapon: A Celestial Bronze sword that can collapse itself into a star-shaped talisman. Often used like a keychain, as I already have a necklace I wear all the time (camp necklace!). There's one end of the star that is longer than the rest, which extends into the sword's blade.

Powers: controlling water, can start small tremors

Quest Completed: I once had to track down the Hunters of Artemis to give them a message. Not exciting, right? But turns out finding them is no easy feat, especially when they like to wander through nest after nest of monsters, leaving me to deal with the stragglers that survived their attack. They are not happy campers. I also took part in the Battle of Manhattan, plus helped out in a few other quests.

Fatal Flaw: Unfortunately, I operate on two fighting modes: either I'm overly reckless or overly analytic. Both which have a tendency to get me killed, because blindly charging is never a good idea, and standing still to think is a great way to be the first to get skewered. You'd think I'm Ares or Athena's daughter, huh? I'm not. But I'm working on finding the balance between the two, practising how to think strategically while fighting.

Favourite camp activity: Lava rock climbing (yes, it's tiring, yes, but it is fantastic and fun and very satisfying!), campfire sing-a-longs (though I'm terrible at singing), Capture the Flag, plus sneaking swims. I mean, why not?

Drink of choice: I have a ton of favourite beverages, but I'd probably mostly stick with some kind of citrus juice like orange juice or lemonade.

Other: I'm more of a finer water controller, in the sense that I'm better at controlling smaller amounts of water. Lifting up the entire creek? Sure, but it's not that easy for me. Controlling small amounts of water makes for better precision, better speeds, and overall, better integration when fighting. Water is a weapon just as much as my sword, and using them together makes a deadly combination!

And that's that! Hope you guys will join us in our re-read, and don't forget to check our Caroline's awesome profile too!

    1. Those drat satyrs! I'm thinking maybe we SHOULD let them eat one, just to make a statement about the terrible stomach pains they'll get. A warning, you know? But I have no idea where we'd find a dummy laptop, especially since they're so drawn to ours... Maybe we can ask one of the Hermes kids? They seem resourceful ;)

    2. YES! Just got word from Travis and Conner Stoll, apparently they're on board with a dummy laptop! I just hope they come through, because they demanded a few drachmas in return for their service. But I'm now realizing that they might have asked me for money in order to see where I keep my wallet...hmm... I thought we were on good enough terms for me to trust them to not steal my stuff? Or maybe I'm just paranoid...

    5. Sure, turns out they’re not the biggest fans of being drenched head to toe.
