Cover Reveal: The Wish Granter by C.J. Redwine

Here's a not well known secret about me: I am a HUGE fan of C.J. Redwine. She is a wordsmith, and her writing is extraordinary. Her Defiance series blew my mind away, and when she announced a series of standalone epic fantasy retellings all set in adjourning kingdoms, I was ecstatic. I mean, they're not the typical retellings; this book alone is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. Be honest, how many retellings of Rumpelstiltkin have you read, or even heard of? Not a lot!

Ready for it? Here it is!

I want to begin by saying how the cover itself looks innocent enough, until you take a closer look. Kind of like Rumpelstiltskin himself, who seemed innocent enough and offered aid, until he showed his true colours. The beautiful icons all remind me of clues, or maybe a code, which is appropriate since the original story of Rumpelstiltskin revolved around trying to guess his name. But when you take a closer look, you can't help but notice the needle dripping with blood. Stitching this pretty patter clearly didn't come without a cost, and in this case, my guess is that the price is one paid with blood... If the synopsis doesn't already indicate, this is definitely not going to be your simple "heroine figures out the name and poof, Rumpelstiltskin disappears" kind of story. It's going to be filled with action and magic, bloodshed and tears in true C.J. Redwine fashion!

I definitely can't wait for this book to come out. Sadly, it's not due until February 2017 (why such a long wait???), but that will give me ample time to familiarize myself on all the different variations of the Rumpelstiltskin stories!

You can read the full cover reveal announcement here. And don't forget to add it to your Goodreads!

What do you guys think? Excited? Anxious? Do you think this will be hit or a miss? Let me know!

An epic fantasy inspired by the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale, about a bastard princess who must take on an evil fae to save her brother’s soul, from the New York Times bestselling author of The Shadow Queen.

The world has turned upside down for Thad and Ari Glavan, the bastard twins of SĂșndraille’s king. Their mother was murdered. The royal family died mysteriously. And now Thad sits on the throne of a kingdom whose streets are suddenly overrun with violence that he can’t stop.

Growing up ignored by the nobility, Ari never wanted to be a proper princess. And when Thad suddenly starts training Ari to take his place, she realizes that her brother’s ascension to the throne wasn’t fate. It was the work of a Wish Granter named Alistair Teague, who tricked Thad into wishing away both the safety of his people and his soul in exchange for the crown.

So Ari recruits the help of Thad’s enigmatic new weapons master, Sebastian Vaughn, to teach her how to fight Teague. With secret ties to Teague’s criminal empire, Sebastian might just hold the key to discovering Alistair’s weaknesses, saving Ari’s brother—and herself.

But Teague is ruthless and more than ready to destroy anyone who dares stand in his way—and now he has his sights set on the princess. And if Ari can’t outwit him, she’ll lose Sebastian, her brother...and her soul.

  1. I loved Redwine's Defiance series as well! I never read The Shadow Queen yet, which I want to do before this one is released. Although they're all standalones, I think it would be more fun to read in publication order. :) I've never heard of a Rumpelstilskin retelling; there are so many retellings of the princess tales, but never of the lesser known ones!

    1. I know! I've never heard of a Rumpelstiltskin retelling. It's a shame that most retellings are retellings of stories that have been produced by Disney. But Rumpelstiltskin is a great classic, and I'm really looking forward to this book! After all, Redwine can do no evil when it comes to writing :)
